Artist Statement
My artistic goal is to promote a new regard and understanding of a very old, ancient symbol and entity – the horse. Strong, fast, majestic, and intriguing, the horse has been a prominent cultural icon throughout time. It has proven itself a faithful instrument of war, been depicted in classic literature, and even decorated muscle car logos. It has also been an important artistic theme for centuries, being present from early Paleolithic drawings in the Chauvet or Lascaux Cave to Charles Russell’s American Western paintings to Bev Doolittle’s prints today.
Growing up I was always captivated by horses, but it was not until later when I began riding that I started noticing the intimate details and parts of the horse that make up the whole. It was then, that my passion began encompassing art and equine. I strive to portray the horse in a fresh, unique light while still maintaining a truthful portrayal of the subject, by removing conventional visual elements and emphasizing select pieces of information.
